Cranbrook Kingswood’s Sydney Behnke Claims Individual Crown

The Catholic High School League (CHSL) Girls Golf Bishop Championship took place on Tuesday, October 1, at the prestigious Detroit Golf Club. The event featured top talent from across the league, and the competition lived up to the venue’s storied history. St. Ursula Academy successfully defended its title, winning the overall team championship for a second consecutive year. At the same time, Cranbrook Kingswood’s Sydney Behnke claimed the individual crown in an impressive display of skill.

Behnke, a junior at Cranbrook Kingswood, delivered a near-flawless performance, finishing with a score of 68, one stroke under par on the challenging course. Her exceptional round secured the individual championship, highlighting her as a standout in the league.

Emma Myers of St. Ursula came in second place, finishing just behind Behnke with an impressive score of 69, matching par. Rounding out the top three were Marian’s Pippa Dawson and Behnke’s teammate, Sixtine Charnelet, who both carded a score of 72.

Earning All-Catholic honors alongside the top three finishers were Maeve Casey and Lila Polakowski of Mercy, both shooting 75. St. Ursula’s Kennedy Donnelly and Sydney Socha each scored 76, continuing to showcase the team’s depth that helped secure their championship repeat. Other All-Catholic honorees included Alina Yuan of Cranbrook Kingswood (78) and Saige Rothey of Lutheran North (80).

2nd Place: Emma Myers (St. Ursula) – 69

The Detroit Golf Club course, known for its difficulty, tested the participants, but these young athletes demonstrated impressive composure and skill, leaving a lasting impression on all in attendance.

With St. Ursula once again at the top and new stars like Behnke rising, the future of CHSL girls golf looks bright, setting up an exciting season ahead.
