Greenhills Senior Mia Melendez Shines with Stellar Performance
The Catholic High School League (CHSL) Girls Golf Cardinal Championship was held at the prestigious Detroit Golf Club on Tuesday, October 1, and it was an event marked by impressive performances and high levels of competition.
The highlight of the day was undoubtedly Senior Mia Melendez from Greenhills, who delivered a remarkable round of golf to claim the overall individual title. Melendez shot an extraordinary 63, six strokes under the par of 69, a score that set her apart from the rest of the field and secured her well-deserved victory.
Greenhills also claimed the team championship, finishing with a combined score of 330, showcasing the depth and skill of their squad. Their closest competition came from St. Mary’s Prep, which finished as finalists with a team score of 340.
In addition to Melendez, a number of other standout golfers earned All-Catholic honors by finishing in the top ten. Rachel Fay of St. Catherine of Siena came in second, followed by Hailey Ward of St. Mary’s Prep. Divine Child’s Erin McCormick and Sophia Harris secured fourth and fifth place, respectively. Regina’s Annie Artymovich, St. Catherine of Siena’s Lucy Krichko, St. Mary’s Prep’s Charli Sikorsky and Adrianna Salem, and Greenhills’ Hannah Lee rounded out the top ten, all delivering strong performances that helped make the day memorable.
The CHSL Girls Golf Cardinal Championship continues to be a showcase of elite talent in the league, and this year's event did not disappoint. With Melendez leading the way, Greenhills added another championship to their record, and the fierce competition among the top contenders only added to the excitement of the day.
