Feb 18, 2025

The Ann Arbor Father Gabriel Richard (FGR) Girls Basketball team delivered a commanding performance to secure the Catholic High School League (CHSL) Bishop Championship, defeating Notre Dame Academy Eagles 48-31.

From the opening tip, FGR set the tone with a dominant first quarter, outscoring Notre Dame Academy 19-6. The Eagles struggled offensively, shooting 23.8% from the field (5/21) and 15.4% from three-point range (1/8). Meanwhile, Ann Arbor FGR capitalized on their chances, shooting 40.0% overall (16/37) and maintaining strong rebounding and defensive pressure.

Leading the charge for FGR was Cora Williams, who contributed 12 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals, while Charlotte Henry added 11 points, 5 assists, and 3 steals. The team’s balanced scoring attack and tenacious defense proved too much for Notre Dame Academy to overcome.

Notre Dame Academy’s offense was led by Nina Sims, who scored 7 points and grabbed 6 rebounds, but turnovers (13 total) and poor shooting prevented them from mounting a comeback. FGR maintained control throughout the game, never allowing the Eagles to take the lead.

The game's largest lead came in the fourth quarter when FGR went up by 19 points (1:46 left), sealing their championship victory.

With this victory, Ann Arbor FGR claims the CHSL Bishop Championship, demonstrating its strength as a top contender in the league.
